Experiments in Type (Editorial Design)

This project was about selecting a letter from the lowercase and uppercase alphabets and conducting various experiments. After exploring several letters, I finally chose the lowercase 'i'. The reason was that the long stem and the dot placed above it create an undeniably beautiful harmony. I believed that these two elements could provide a solid foundation for various experiments, so I continued the project with 'i'.

To expand the form of 'i', I tried to utilize as many objects around my house as possible, and at times, I even incorporated my own body. Although there were some limitations in creating 40 images, I still challenged myself to try different experiments while making sure the results didn’t overlap.

Finally, I started creating a zine with the completed experimental images. Before diving into the zine work, I decided to establish a concept. Since this project was not just an exploration of letters but also a way to push my own limits, I decided to focus on both the letter and myself. Therefore, the theme of this zine became "My Room". As you open the zine, you'll first see a map of a room created from the letter 'i', followed by three parts separated by a color palette, with various photos appearing in each part. The main color was set to a bright red, which symbolizes my English name, Cherry. At the end of the zine, I included a special credit to commemorate all the objects that helped me with this project, as well as myself.
